Obituary of Anthony S. Leonti

Anthony S. Leonti, of Bedford, died at home in hospice care on November 25, 2019 after a long illness. He is survived by his domestic partner of 25 years Christine McGovern; three children from a prior marriage, Ruth Ann, Anthony, and Pamela; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Anthony was born in Boston and grew up in San Jose, California. He studied Mechanical Engineering at San Jose State and worked designing cams to improve automation of client businesses. However, he did not like working indoors and made a career as a heavy equipment operator. His first job after returning to Boston was as a crane operator on the Prudential Building roof. Eventually, with a partner, he formed Mass Equipment Rentals (MER).

He enjoyed dancing to country music - Anthony and Christine belonged to the 2 Steppers for several years. He joined the New Hampshire Country Music Association and the New England Country Music Organization (NEMCO) which promoted competition in country music. He enjoyed traveling to Nevada and Tennessee to support the local talent competing nationally.

Anthony is credited with starting the Class Action Suit which led to the removal of Social Security numbers on driver's licenses in Massachusetts - an early step in identity protection.

He was an avid horse rider and he boarded his horses in Lincoln, MA.

In the past, he was an avid bowler at Crowell Bowl in Stow, MA joining mens' and couples' leagues. He also competed in many tournaments held throughout the area.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 10am in St. Michael's Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony's memory to Friends of the Bedford Council on Aging (FBCOA), 12 Mudge Way, Suite 1, Bedford, MA 01730 or Minuteman Senior Services, 26 Crosby Drive, Bedford, MA 01730 are appreciated.
