Obituary of Jane Harding Goode

Jane Harding Goode, 78, of Lexington died July 3, 2018, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Bangor, ME on October 2, 1939, the daughter of the late R. Donald and Maxine Goode. Jane graduated from Bangor High School in 1957, from the University of Maine Orono in 1961 with a BA degree in mathematics and later obtained a master’s degree from Western New England College. 

Upon graduation from UMaine, she accepted a position as a software developer with United Aircraft Research Laboratory in East Hartford, CT where she worked with meteorologists from Travelers Research Center to forecast weather using radar data. In 1965, she left URAL and traveled in Europe for nearly a year with her dear friend Kathy Leblanc.

Upon her return, she settled in the Boston area and went to work for the System Development Corp in Lexington. There she became a subtractor at MIT Instrumentation Lab in Cambridge. While there she was involved in software development for NASA, the Apollo Command Module Guidance System and worked on the development and testing of the Rendezvous Targeting and navigation software. At the MIT Instrumentation Lab, she led software development, test teams and trained astronauts on simulators in Cambridge and Cape Canaveral, FL. She continued to develop onboard software throughout her time at Draper Laboratory. Her career covered effects in underwater guidance Trident Submarine Testing. She led teams of developers and testers and was always most impressed by the capable people with whom she worked during her decades at Draper Laboratory in Cambridge.

She is survived by her loving sister Rebecca Furman and brother-in-law John R Furman Jr of Wells, ME. She was very close and dear to Becky and Rocky’s five children:  John D Furman, wife Lisa and daughter Lindsey of Exeter, NH; Joline Tonra, husband Chris and children Kaitlyn, Logan and Colin of Dunedin, FL; Jill Jones, husband Mike and children Ethan and Sophia of Milton, VT; Amanda Furman of Eliot, ME; Timothy Furman, fiancé Julie Gero of Providence, RI. Dear friend, neighbor and travel companion of forty plus years Lois Kinzer of Lexington. Dear friend Kathy Leblanc, husband Gabe and family Genevieve, Mark, Emily and Julia of Westborough, MA.

Two significant parts of her life, where she made many great memories and friends, were at her summer home on Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, ME and at Camp Natarswi, a Girl Scout Camp, located at the base of Mount Katahdin in Millinocket, ME.

A Memorial Service will be held on July 12th at 11am in Edwards Church UCC, 39 Edwards Street, Framingham, MA (508-877-2050) with a reception to follow in the adjoining building.
